About TJ
Thanks for visiting my page! My name is TJ Chillot (pronounced shuh-lot), and I’m a professional play-by-play broadcaster with nearly a decade of experience across multiple leagues, sports, and media platforms - with majority of my experience coming in the world of pro-hockey.
Born and raised in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley, my path to the broadcast booth wasn’t exactly traditional. I started my working-life in the automotive industry at age 21, selling cars at a local dealership and eventually working my way up to manager. Seven years later, while driving home one night, I heard a radio ad seeking part-time help at a local station. That commercial changed my life.
I joined ESPN Radio of the Lehigh Valley (now Fox Sports Radio) as a studio host and producer, where I quickly fell in love with the energy of live broadcasting. That opportunity opened doors to freelance work with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies) and Lehigh University Athletics (NCAA Division-I), as well as an internship with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers).
After completing my internship, I earned my first full-time play-by-play position as the voice of the Mississippi RiverKings of the SPHL. In my very first season, I was honored to be named 2017–18 SPHL Broadcaster of the Year.
When the RiverKings ceased operations a year later, I transitioned to the Austin Bruins of the NAHL. As the teams sole front-office staff member, I was tasked with expanding my knowledge base beyond broadcasting by adding ticket management, game operations, customer relations, and creative content to my repertoire. Not only did I assist in navigating the team through the COVID-19 pandemic, but I was also selected twice to broadcast the league’s Top Prospects Tournament, an annual showcase for the NAHL’s elite talent.
In 2021, professional hockey came calling once again. I joined the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL as both play-by-play broadcaster and corporate sales representative, a dual role that perfectly blended my experience in broadcasting and business development. After four seasons with the team, ownerships changes forced me to explore new options which is where I created Chillot Broadcasting, LLC and began freelancing for many outfits in the Charlotte, North Carolina area including Queens University (NCAA Division-I), University of North Carolina Charlotte (NCAA Division-I), and Statesville High School. This new venture has helped me round out my broadcasting talents by calling new sports such as soccer, volleyball, rugby, and field hockey, to name a few.
Whether I’m behind the mic, crafting new content, or enjoying time with my wife Sarah and our two pups, I’m always chasing the next broadcast so I can share a great story with fans.
